Except not. It was fine for the first year, but then if you don't pay the fee, the thing stops working completely. I wouldn't mind too much if it just didn't send me updates if I didn't pay and the thing at least still read codes, at the very least, but no. They bricked it. And when I wrote an honest 2-star review for this, my review was deleted.

Its a long review, but worth the read! For performing diagnostics, bi-directional control, and service tasks for the first year, it can't be beat. I was surprised to find that my limited production EV was actually covered. All was well and good. Quick response, fast scans and functionality unmatched at the price point. But after the first year, that's it. It is now a brick. If you want it to work again, you will have to pay a subscription fee equal to the price of buying a new unit. So that does not help the waste stream. Also, when you install the app, it can only be on a device that has cellular connectivity. WiFi is not good enough. So that means if you were going to use a large tablet that has more screen real estate, you are out of luck. It has to be a phone. Also, for some reason (CCP) , Topdon needs to know your exact location all the time, and not just when using the app. No explanation given why, but the app will not work if your location setting is not set to "all the time" for the app.
Years ago, automobile diagnostic scanners did not care who you were, where you were, and did not need your phone number or email address. Some had subscriptions and should the subscription lapse, your tool still worked, you just could not get any updates. Those scanners were made in free democracies like the USA, UK, Germany, Japan, South Korea, and especially Taiwan. Take a guess where Topdon scanners are made: CCP land. The only thing that bugs me is the $99 a year to keep it working !!! For that price I could just order a brand new one every year as the price is the same. Would it not be smarter to charge, lets say $50 a year to keep it working/updated !!!

Im very happy with the topscan pro as a mobile mechanic, coming from using a snapon solis plus at my last job. Now I was disappointed at first, i thought its capabilities were pretty limited as theres no book with the thing showing where to find all the functions, but after exploring around i found all the good s*** i was hoping itd do. It definitely does all the things a $1500+ scanner does just as autotech mike claimed. The layout takes a little getting used to is all. Get it before they jump the price up its gonna be the best bang youll get for your buck.
